National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic — Categories of Eligible Applicants
Citizens of all countries of the world may apply for this programme. Below are the three categories of applicants and the main eligibility requirements:
Category A — For Students
Who can apply:
- Students of higher education institutions outside Slovakia;
- Master’s students or students who, by the application deadline, have successfully completed at least 2.5 years of their bachelor’s studies;
- Students accepted to study in Slovakia within the framework of an academic mobility programme.
Note: All three conditions must be met. This category does not apply to PhD (doctoral) students.
Scholarship duration: 1–2 semesters.
Category B — For PhD Students
Who can apply:
- Students enrolled in PhD (or equivalent) studies outside Slovakia;
- Students accepted by a public, private, or non-governmental higher education institution or a research institution in Slovakia authorized to implement doctoral study programmes.
Scholarship duration: 1–10 months.
Category C — For University Teachers and Researchers
Who can apply:
- Individuals invited for a teaching or research stay by an institution in Slovakia authorized to carry out research and development activities.
Scholarship duration: 1–10 months.
The programme does not support:
- International students enrolled in full bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral study programmes in Slovakia;
- University teachers, researchers, or artists without a PhD degree and with more than 4 years of professional experience;
- Individuals who have spent more than 15 months in Slovakia during the 36 months prior to the application deadline;
- Applicants participating in other scholarship programmes funded from public resources.
Obligations of National Scholarship Programme Scholarship Holders
As the programme is financed from public sources, scholarship holders must comply with the following rules and obligations:
- Accuracy of documents
All documents submitted by the scholarship holder must be complete, accurate, and truthful. Any false information is considered a violation. - Prohibition of multiple financing
The same expense for the same purpose cannot be financed multiple times from the same source. If the scholarship holder plans to receive additional financial support from the state budget of the Slovak Republic during the scholarship period, they must immediately inform the programme administrator — SAIA, n. o. - Cooperation obligation
If required, the scholarship holder must provide full cooperation to the competent authorities of the Slovak Republic or their authorized representatives, especially during inspections, monitoring, or audits. - Consent to the use of personal data
By accepting the scholarship, the scholarship holder agrees that their personal data (as provided in the application, attachments, and other documents) may be shared with the competent authorities of the Slovak Republic for control, monitoring, or auditing purposes.
These conditions are established to ensure transparent and lawful use of scholarship funds. Scholarship holders are expected to fully understand and comply with them.
